| well, i think it's time i updated this thing again. i made a new blog. but i'm just going to link it. that way i don't lose everything here. my new blog:: www.servant421.wordpress.com | |
it was a great time of worship and fellowship. we always get so caught up in school, or work, or friends, or just life in general that we rarely ever take time to just worship. and friday night just helped remind me of that and a lot of other things. i mean, seriously, why is it that we constantly push God further and further away but yet He still clings to us and longs for that relationship with us? why is it that we consistently put other things before the One that died for us, the one that bore our shame and guilt? and why is it that we would rather be doing anything else than spending time with Him? i know that He's always there, but we take that for granted so many times. we take Him for granted so many times and in so many ways. so, my goal is to spend more time in His word and praying for friends. i challenge you to do the same. fellowship...that word just makes me smile. i got to spend some time with great people on friday. they each encourage me so much and i'm so thankful for each of them. i leave you with these song lyrics: Somewhere in the Middle by Casting Crowns Somewhere between the hot and the cold Somewhere between the new and the old Somewhere between who I am and who I used to be Somewhere in the middle, You'll find me Somewhere between the wrong and the right Somewhere between the darkness and the light Somewhere between who I was and who You're making me Somewhere in the middle, You'll find me Just how close can I get, Lord, to my surrender without losing all control Fearless warriors in a picket fence, reckless abandon wrapped in common sense Deep water faith in the shallow end and we are caught in the middle With eyes wide open to the differences, the God we want and the God who is But will we trade our dreams for His or are we caught in the middle Are we caught in the middle Somewhere between my heart and my hands Somewhere between my faith and my plans Somewhere between the safety of the boat and the crashing waves Somewhere between a whisper and a roar Somewhere between the altar and the door Somewhere between contented peace and always wanting more Somewhere in the middle You'll find me Just how close can I get, Lord, to my surrender without losing all control Fearless warriors in a picket fence, reckless abandon wrapped in common sense Deep water faith in the shallow end and we are caught in the middle With eyes wide open to the differences, the God we want and the God who is But will we trade our dreams for His or are we caught in the middle Are we caught in the middle Lord, I feel You in this place and I know You're by my side Loving me even on these nights when I'm caught in the middle | |||

| so today is Valentine's Day. happy V-day to everyone, i hope you have a great day. :) not to be a downer or anything, but pray for the family and friends of Brittany Fogg. if you didn't know, she was an amazing Godly young lady that was killed 2 years ago today. she was a great friend of mine and many others at ngu, first baptist north spartanburg, KY, and many others. on a different note, this is my article that was published in yesterday's (2-13-08) issue of the Skyliner (my school newspaper). i hope you get something out of it. tell me what you think :) Christ's Love: the perfect PDA Keisha Tinsley Copy Editor When most people think of Valentine's Day, they think of hearts, flowers and gifts from their significant other. But the history of Valentine's Day is quite different from the way it is celebrated today, and it is not just an American holiday. According to history.com, there are three different legends that suggest why we celebrate this occasion. One being that Saint Valentine, a Roman refusing to deny his Christianity, was martyred on Feb. 14, 246 A.D. The second legend says that St. Valentine was in prison and fell in love with the jailor's daughter. He left her a farewell note signed, "From your Valentine." The third legend says that during the third century in Rome, Emperor Claudius II outlawed young men to be married because they made better soldiers. Saint Valentine did not agree with this decree and continued to marry young couples in secret. When Claudius II found out, he ordered that St. Valentine be put to death. Valentine's Day is not only celebrated in the U.S., but other countries also enjoy this holiday. In Finland, Valentine's Day is known as Ystävänpäivä, which means "Friends Day." Día del amor y la amistad, or "Love and Friendship Day," is celebrated in Colombia, according to wikipedia.com. So, love can come from many people. I can have love for someone as a significant other. But I can also have love for friends, family, God and many others. In addition to celebrating love for a day, some have decided to have fun with this holiday. Single's Awareness Day (SAD) is a humorous version of Valentine's Day. On Feb. 14, those not involved in a romantic relationship can plan parties and exchange gifts with other single friends. This is simply meant to allow all of the single people to stand up and say it's okay to be single (singlesawareness.com). For me, I think of love, but not love just from significant others. Two years ago Valentine's Day forever changed for me when my good friend died on Valentine's Day. And while I try not to dwell on that, this year I want to try to do something for one person to show that they are loved. The Bible says in John 15:13, "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." When we all look at our friendships, kinships and even those that have estranged themselves, can we honestly say that we would lay down our life for them? That is what Jesus did on the cross. He knew every good and bad thing we would say, do, think and even dream, yet He still bore our sins and shame. So why is it so hard for us to love others? Let's have a campus-wide movement this Valentine's Day. Take some time to go up to someone that you don't know or maybe even someone that has wronged you and do something nice for them. Show them the love that comes from God (1 John 4:7). | |
